There are two common Fiberglass Pool Myths that gunite/concrete pool builders like to throw around.

Myth # 1.  Fiberglass pools crack…

In all my years putting in pools I have NEVER EVER had a fiberglass pool crack. In my 29 years of installing pools, I have only heard of one fiberglass pool that cracked.   Some yahoo pool builder set a fiberglass pool on a stump.   When they filled the pool up of course it cracked.

Myth # 2.  Fiberglass pools float out of the ground like a boat…

I have NEVER EVER had a fiberglass pool float.   Proper installation can and will prevent fiberglass pools from floating, even in flood plains and where the water tables are extremely high.   Not every pool builder knows how to prevent fiberglass and gunite/concrete pools from floating.   Yes, gunite/concrete pools can float if not properly built for high water tables.   If you are in an area where the water table is very high, there are five (5) things that can be done to eliminate any possibility of a fiberglass pool from floating.   I could put a fiberglass pool in the middle of a swamp and it wouldn’t float.   It is not recommended to drain the water from fiberglass, liner, or gunite/concrete pools.   Water can be cleared up in a few days, and very inexpensively, around $50.00 in chemicals, no matter how green and filthy the water is.   So, you should never drain any kind of pool.

Be very careful of those pool builders who don’t want to post prices.   They probably will give you a higher bid/price for a pool if you live in a more affluent neighborhood.  Also, be careful of those pool builders who make you email or call about swimming pool questions instead of posting enough factual information to let you decide for yourself what kind of pool is right for your back yard.   Don’t get me wrong, if you have any questions please email or call me but I try to post on this web site solid information so that you can be an educated pool buyer.    I don’t like to be lied to and I won’t lie to you.  If you look at my web site and what I offer is not for you, I want you to go somewhere else.  I am not going to try and twist your arm/leg for your business.  The information here is the best information I can give you from my 40 years of pool building experience.  I grew up in this business.   The warranty on the fiberglass pools I install, have some of the best warranties out there.  Better than any kind of warranty a gunite/concrete pool will come with and a better warranty than liner pools.

Our concrete decks are poured on top of the lip of the pool.  (Left diagram below)    Other companies pour the deck up to the edge of the pool,  (Right diagram below)  or, they will charge you more for doing it the proper way.   There is no way a pool could float out of the ground when the concrete is poured on top of the lip like it is suppose to be.

Saves Time & Money:

10 year comparison of total maintenance costs between a concrete pool and our Fiberglass or Liner Pool. Based on prices in 2000.

Gunite/Concrete: Our Fiberglass Pools:
2 acid baths @ $400/each $800 No acid baths $0
Remarciteing and Painting $5,500 No refinishing $0
Chemicals $35 per month $4,200 Chemicals $15 per month (chlorine)
($2-$4 per month with Salt System.)
$1,800
Electric costs $40 per month $4,800 Electric costs $12 per month
(4-6 Times less pump run time needed)
BECAUSE THE SMOOTH SURFACE CAN’T HARBOR ALGAE
$1,440
Total 10 Year Maintenance Costs $15,300 Total 10 Year Maintenance Costs $3,240

The total maintenance costs of our Fiberglass Pools is about 4 1/4 times lower than a gunite/concrete pool.  The smooth finish is not only beautiful, but is also algae resistant with a no slip surface on the steps and floor.  This reduces the amount of chemicals and pump operation time needed to keep the pool water clean.  This surface eliminates the need for acid treatments and refinishing which are necessary for gunite/concrete pools.
